Food for Thought Series
Interplanted: Growing Foodies from Scratch

Tuesday, September 15
6:00 – 8:00pm
Author Mary Hunt will host this panel discussion which will cover the eating, growing, serving, and business of the plant-based activities inside the Port Townsend School District. Over the past 20 years, our community has been creating this overlapping system that works to buffer food insecurity. Every year over 14,000 pounds of fresh produce is generated on or near school property to feed students. The program also provides hours of “how to grow” hands-on instruction.
Joining Mary will be PT School District Food Director, Shannon Gray; Grower and Educator Doug Van Allen; plus Culinary and Food Enterprise Educator, Jen Kruse.
Experience the results of this program during the following weekend’s Farm Tour. Visit Salish Coast School on Saturday for a hydroponics demo by Farmer Neil Howe, and on Sunday, see a composting demonstration at the Port Townsend High School by Rachael Dunn.
Copies of the book "Interplanted" will be available to purchase with proceeds going to the PT Farm to School Program.
This free series offered by Quimper Grange #720, examines "all things food & growing” in our area. For over 100 years, this Grange has supported the Jefferson County community through public programming, concerts, dance, rental space, and a 7,000 ft² Food Bank Garden, donating produce to help mitigate food insecurity. Doors open at 5:45 pm

Open Mic & Singalong
First Tuesday
Happy Hour is open to the public on the first Tuesday of the month starting at 5:00 pm. Enjoy listening and singing along with us. The relaxed atmosphere encourages beginners to advanced groups and individuals to perform. Bring your musical instruments and play along with us. We suggest a small donation to help pay the rent.
Guidelines: Sign up upon arrival if you wish to perform. Solo performers are allowed one song and one singalong song. Groups can perform up to three songs, with one designated as a singalong. Bring singalong music for projection.

Port Townsend Community Dance

Caller David Thielk has called dances from Alaska to San Diego, and from Port Townsend to Wisconsin. His style developed from years of calling in barns, community halls, living rooms, bars, parks and even an occasional hotel room! He calls traditional squares, contras, circles, mixers and reels that appeal to beginners and experienced dancers alike.
David's influencers include Larry Edelman, Susan Michaels, Phil Jamieson, and Fred Park. Dancers can expect a rich variety of figures, clear instructions, great energy, and some humor! Dave also plays fiddle and banjo for dances, and organizes the monthly Port Townsend Community Dance.
Dance fiddler Kate Lichtenstein and friends will be pulsing out the dance tunes! Kate has played for dances all over the northwest, including our Port Townsend dance.
Caller David Thielk
The Port Townsend Community Dance is inspired by traditional kitchen and barn dances and features a mixture of traditional sets, always danced to live music along with a dance caller. All experience levels are welcome; all dances are taught! Come alone, with a friend, with a partner, with the family – or with the whole village!
Admission is $10-20! Cash or Venmo (@illusionsofbanjar) only.
Donations to our program are always appreciated.
Please bring your own personal water bottle and consider arriving on foot or by bicycle if possible!

Judith and Kathy display beautiful flowers for the memorial table settings. They are posed underneath some of the Grange garden's 29 ribbons from the County Fair.
Barbara shows off the Grange's food bank garden produce to be entered in the Fair. We were lucky that the weather was not hot, for all the produce survived and we were able to donate it to the Recovery Cafe for their weekly meal.
Co-Managers Nels and Mary Beth ham it up with some beautiful tromboncino summer squash.
