Garden Notes

April 2026

We gathered on this fabulous January day to send a note of thanks to Jefferson Community Foundation who has generously funded Food Bank Growers once again, of which Quimper Grange Food Bank Garden is a member.

This was also Derek's last day at the garden (he's the tall guy in the back). We all gathered to sing him a silly song and give him well-wishes for his new job at OWL 360, a place for youth to 'hang out' and receive important services. Derek will be amazing at his new job! www.owl360.org.

After installing more LED grow lights, our greenhouse operations are really picking up! Jan & Feb are the time to start alliums (onions, leeks, etc), now we're about to start many more plants in February. See our Garden tab to learn about GroVeg, our new program, and what our growing scheme will look like.

The harvest has been great this month. After harvest tomorrow, we'll have donated over 60 pounds of produce to the food bank for January - over half of that greens including pea shoots, salad mix, braising mix, microgreens, and pac choi. The other half is our carrot donation, from which we should be able to donate for three more weeks.

"If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant."
